The first hospices for the mentally ill appeared in the Middle Ages. The early 19th century saw the development of psychiatry as a recognized field. Mental health institutions came to utilize more elaborate and, over the course of time, more humane treatment methods. The 19th century saw a huge increase in the number of patients.

The 20th century saw an upsurge of biological understanding of mental disorders, as well as the introduction of more systematic disease classification, and the advent of sophisticated psychiatric medication. An anti-psychiatry movement, hostile to most of the fundamental assumptions and practices of the discipline, emerged in the 1960s. A shift in emphasis in several Western societies led to the dismantling of state psychiatric hospitals in favor of more community-based treatment.Viagra Online this pill is amazing .Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05744310363709896138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4272292352848067801.post-54678915087453988152009-10-26T12:26:03.213-07:002009-10-26T12:26:03.213-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.carohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08923141636221848255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4272292352848067801.post-31984473707462341962009-10-26T12:23:40.854-07:002009-10-26T12:23:40.854-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.carohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08923141636221848255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4272292352848067801.post-17066445629116743392008-09-13T01:56:00.000-07:002008-09-13T01:56:00.000-07:00Hi,I'm glad that you have decided to pursue a care...Hi,

I'm glad that you have decided to pursue a career in psychiatry. Long story, that!

In any case, while in college I worked at an adolescent psych facility and happened to be running the locked unit when one of our most interesting patients came in...a girl who was later diagnosed with "emerging schizophrenia". We had other kids there at the facility with the dx of schizophrenia, but most of them were under control for the most part, as in, not psychotic most of the time.

I learned a lot there, maybe one of the biggest things being what you touched upon; the need of these people to be loved. I was only 20 or so when I was there, but I became a "mother" to all these troubled teens, most of whom had also been abused. It was heartbreaking. Some of those kids really just needed to have a consistent life and know that they were valued.

I guess I could go on but I'm heading into way OT land here!

God bless!Adorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02853244433854822731noreply@blogger.com
